A New Mix For You: A Garden Of Earthly Delights

Well if you hadn't guessed I've given the site a pretty amateur facelift, I think I may hate it already.
But that's not really the point, the point is that I have a new mini-mix to add and have a bunch of ideas for future mixes which I plan to make a lot more frequent, monthly would be great.
I've gone for a psy-kraut-wig-out with this one. Hope you enjoy.

Bands You Haven't Fallen In Love With Yet: Diagonal

Right so I heard about these watching a really bad NME interview with Simian Mobile Disco, who of course are great and obviously know their musical onions. The bloke interviewing them was a guffawing simpleton and he gave them the yawnful "who are your tips for 2009?", one of them answered (the one who didn't produce the Arctic Monekys album) "Diagonal, they're a prog band. But not in a bad way". I checked this out straight away and was immensely happy to find out I have a new band to love, they're prog but they also have some jazz fusion that wigs out like Mahavishnu
Orchestra. Swirling organs and vocals when they're called for, tight tight band with musicians who fucking adore their instrument, in fact most of the band adore a number of instruments.

Anyway this band are exactly what music needs right now, something to fucking wigging out to rather than by number electro remixes.
You can sample the whole of their self title debut on last.fm here . and get yourself a copy- I am.

Friday 13th? Unluckily for you here is some tinnitus fodder.

Hmmm maybe you could do with some noise. It's a weird weekend a double header of bad luck on Friday (the 13th) and Saturday (valentines day). Kind of depressing as you don't leave the house for fear of falling pianos and your trousers disintegrating in the acid rain to reveal your deepest insecurities. And that is a great day compared to the Saturday, where you don't leave the house because you're constantly reminded that you're failing in finding someone to hump again.
That's unless you're not bothered with superstition and believe Valentines day to be a slight waste of time. If so it's just a normal weekend, drink up and listening to something noisey.

Download: Pineal Ventana- Control?
Found this band accidentally as one does, Sonic Youth'esque and Souixie Sioux'ish, if ya like.

Download: U.S. Girls- Kelly In The Other Room, Me In My
Can't remember if I put this song up before. Still good.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

My good friend Matthew said to me while visiting London said "Check out the pains of being pure at heart, fooking proper indie". Proper indie seems to be something I adopt to bands who actually sound like they may have come from the times when Indie wasn't all haircuts, primark jeans and cheekbones, in short they're good. Boys and girls harmonising with layers of fuzzed guitars and satisfying hooks, they've just released a self titled album which is more than worth the money you would've spent on Sherbert Dips and American Gladiator figurines.

Ace TV Theme Tunes: Monkey

I've decided to do a regular item on my favourite pieces of music from TV. And I'm starting with quite possibly my favourite, the disco-prog groover that was the theme music for cult 70s Japanese/British re-imagining fantasy 'Monkey'.

The song was written and performed by the Japanese band Godeigo the song has become almost as famous as the program, of which my brain fails to remember anything other than it was badly over-dubbed and they were a ninja monkey men.
In fact a lot of the themes I'll be putting up I prefer or remember better than the actual show, including a theme for a sport I detest, but the opening bit is ace.

Air + Phoenix= Dynamite

Wanked on about how much I fucking love Phoenix, and that was sincere. I also love AIR and you should too, Phoenix, AIR, Sebastien Tellier and Daft Punk have a little french family thing going on. I love that especially as they make some of the most satisfying and original music. I love you all.
