Ocassionally I'll hear someone mentioning something in popular culture as if a Heat magazine front cover staple had landed on the moon. From these earwigged conversations or after a brief flick through The Sun when I'm waiting for Szechuan Beef at a takeaway, I have some questions?
What is a Eoghan Quigg?
What is a Jodie Harsh?
What is a Jonas Brother?
What is a Gok Wan?
What is a Tokio Hotel?
Are these drivers of bandwagons? Jumpin on the John Barrowman bandwagon by mistake lead me through a journey of smug irritations.
Here are some people who could drive some good bandwagon, but never have/will be at that burdened wheel.
Roky Erickson
He was the voice of The 13th Floor Elevators a true innovator in psychedelic rock, but psychedelia in the 60s also had a tight marital bond with LSD and other mind benders. Unfortunately his mental health began to suffer and he suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia, but still made some ace solo records, which serve as a spyhole into his mind.

The Everly Brothers
Far too uncool to be even considered of driving a fated bandwagon to it's temporary destination.
Their harmonies are so tight and this tune in particular moves like a steam train, they got a few tunes like that, trains are good- they take you places just like a good song.

Haakon Ellingsen
I'd jump on his sweet bandwagon, chambered in perfect neo-psychedelic pop. His new LP "The Plum Album" is out on the Internet and from what I've heard it comes with free sunshine.

Linda Perhacs
I first heard about Linda when watching Daft Punk's 'Electroma' film, the soundtrack on that film is faultless and the best use of music I've seen in a film for a while, the film is disgustingly slow towards the last half hour with ZERO dialogue, the music keeps you awake.
Linda Perhacs released her only proper album 'Parallelograms' in 1970, nobody bought it or heard much about it, but naturally it surfaced here and there and gained quite the following. It's a beauty and as a massive lover of Joni Mitchell and more out there folk I fell in love almost instantly.

Next post will be a little more CURRENT with some of my favourite Noisy Lo-Fi acts knocking about.
Quite clearly these have nothing to do with Obama.
Guido & Maurizio De Angelis
You went for the good guy. It was quite fun watching it all unfold live and I awoke in the morning slightly hungover thinking I dreamt that America had themselves a black president, how pleasant a reality that Obama is in.
But to be truthful I know fuck about politics, but I know about tunes. So here are today's pick of the bunch.
Guido & Maurizio De Angelis- I Don't Mind About Tomorrow (mediafire)
Taken from a rare soundtrack to a Formula One documentary 'Formula Uno', if only formula one was as good as this song I might care about Lewis Hamilton winning the 'VroomVroom championship'.
Guido & Maurizio are highly regarded for their work on soundtracks for Italian Cop and thriller movies usually under the name 'Oliver Onions'.
A big cinematic tune that, with a sweeping huge chorus, full of harmony and lush strings.
Grace Jones- Williams Blood (Aeroplane Remix) (mediafire)
Of what I've heard I quite like the new Grace Jones tunes, she's quite the enigma and a gay icon which is the pinnacle of critical acclaim... just ask Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Madonna and... yeah so not that great an accolade. But Grace Jones is good and this Aeroplane remix adds their airy, synth, electro disco edge that lends itself brilliantly to Grace.
Freedom's Children- Kafkasque (mediafire)
Freedom's Children are a psychedelic band from South Africa, and them being from South Africa has got me wondering what else has come from here worthy of my listen in this arena. Certainly something to look into, because what I've heard from these lot is impressive. They got the bit of mystic monologue at the start which straight away fits them in the Psych arena with cliched ease. But don't let that worry you because it's a delight.
Eine Kleine Nacht Musik- Bardolator (mediafire)
The project of Riton who normally finds himself aligned with the more typical electro crew who are hogging the floors and bullying their way about.
This is his Krautrock project and he's created a great cosmos of interesting sounds that played on a decent sound system will float about the room with bip, bops, drifting synths and peddling rhythms.
...Was a little what I became when I played my first self promoted night. There were electro DJ's on before, one of which was from Does It Offend You Yeah? this bloke was a prick a true prick who only agreed to DJ because he wanted to stick his podge into my co-promoter and only played about 15 minutes before whinging about the mixer. She thanked him on her blog and some other minor nothing celeberities that I won't promote, it was nice to thank them or "NAME CHECK".
I'd like to thank anybody who handed out a flyer in the cold, told their mates about the night, turned up and danced. It was a good party.
Sorry but sitting in a reserved corner (which I didn't have the gull to put up personally) and helping yourself to too many guestlist and the rider does not deserve thanks.
Right that was all pointless.
Let's get to the tunes
Ponytail- G Shock (mediafire)
This from their second LP 'Ice Cream Spiritual' is frantic, manic and would go well served alongside No Age.
Edip Akbayram & Dostlar- Arabam Kaldi Yolda (mediafire)
Turkish 70s Psych and Prog is a gem and this is a great place to start.
Dungen- Det Tar Tid (mediafire)
From Turkey to Sweden with their own psychedelic trip, beautiful little twinkly number, lush harmonies and rolling drums. Lush.
Taken from their new album '4'
Terry Callier- You're Going To Miss Your Candyman (mediafire)
I urge anyone to pick up a copy of 'What Color is Love', I believe he could stand alongside Marvin, Curtis and Stevie. I'd say this album is perfect for sundays but everyday is good for this album.
