LEAD SOUP: October Listings

I would say this, but October's line-up of acts coming to the Ifthereishellbelow.com curated live music and club night LEAD SOUP is one of the finest in the whole of London. It's all happening at the new Mother Live venue in Old Street where entrance is free, pints are £3, mixers and wine not much more and you can dance into the night with the Lead Soup DJs.

Here's a wee run down of the acts playing over the next month and some choice pickings from their musical fruit basket.

THE SUN ELECTRIC BAND
http://soundcloud.com/thesunelectricband
Manchester's Sun Electric Band have that west-coast pop sound, sweet harmonies and tangy country rock guitar that here at Lead Soup we're an absolute sucker for.
In a recent interview Ross Charnock said 'If someone thought our music reminded them of a lost Big Star album or some Teenage Fanclub out-takes, I’d be delighted.'
Well Ross, I hope you take some delight from us saying 'you remind us of…'

LEAD SOUP: Oct 1st - Black Manila and Flamingo Drive at Mother Live (Old Street)

IfThereIsHellBelow.com presents
LEAD SOUP

London's newest weekly underground live music and club night, celebrating all that is glorious in rock n roll, indie, garage rock, psych, punk, rock and whatever sounds we're digging - we'll throw anything into the Lead Soup as long as it tastes good! And we'll do this EVERY SATURDAY at Mother Live in Old Street (right next to Mother Bar 333)

On October 1st we're massively excited to have both Black Manila and Flamingo Drive playing at Mother Live.

BLACK MANILA
http://blackmanila.bandcamp.com/
Fresh from the release of their new EP and a tour of France Black Manila return to London with their sneering biker garage rock.
Black Manila have been building up a hell of a reputation around their fellow London and you'll see why, their sound is that kind of dirty blues rock n roll, that has a touch of heavy and fucking groove you'll find irresistible.

Happiness by BlackManila

FLAMINGO DRIVE
http://soundcloud.com/flamingo-drive
Cryptograms by Flamingo Drive Flamingo Drive make pop music; it's a very English type of pop music too, singing about bishops, vagabonds and chimney's... I don't think these things exist anywhere else do they? You could say their music is psychedelic, but their is a driving krautrockness and heavingess to them in parts that suggests these boys ain't no 60's revisionists.

Afterwards, Spacehips keeps the basement party going with a killer set of psych, rocknroll, noise, punk, garage rock, electronic, freak pop music from the past, present, future and beyond.

Doors 9pm - 2am

The Tea Company - You Keep Me Hanging On

Here is a drawn out psych rock cover of my favourite Supremes cover that isn't by Vanilla Fudge.
At the moment, I'm going to say it's a superior version too.

Man, I may be rusty at this blogging stuff. I've been away on holiday and sorting out the If There Is Hell Below affiliated gig and club night Lead Soup. It feels like I ain't been giving this baby blog some attention and here is some of that now and long may it continue!

Here is a cut from 'Why You Cryin?' the debut album from hip hop duo Not the 1s produced by a blog favourite, the hazy tropical surf pop producer Monster Rally.
Monster Rally's laid back, beach lounger and cocktail production really lends itself to a more lethargically delivered hip hop track, check his Doom remix and you'll see.

Not the 1s debut album 'Why You Cryin?' is out on Gold Robot records.
