Matt Berry - (Running an Inn) Mumbo & Jive
You may know him from his various comedic roles on Snuff Box, Mighty Boosh and the highly over-rated I.T. Crowd but Matt Berry is a songwriter of supreme talent.
His latest album Witchazel sounds like a lost 70s pastoral folk album; it's not a comedy record, comedy records usually tire, bore and are generally so reliant on a joke that the song is lost (bar Spinal Tap and Flight of the Conchords). The wit is here and it does not take itself too seriously while paying homage to the English folk of Fairport Convention, Caravan and synthesiser rock of Roxy Music.
Rain Came Down features a guest spot from Paul McCartney doing his best impression of being Paul McCartney.
