Nick Lowe - So it Goes

Picked this up on 45 the other day, span it
to death already - just great powerpop.

New Gil Scott-Heron Tune

Well he's godly isn't he. It's a Robert Johnson song, it sounds pretty modern, heavy beats and Bass overdubs done by the talented yet miserable, humourless, prick-stick Damon Albarn. Yeah I like this. Would be lovely if he did some London shows, which will no doubt cost an eye and a testicle (which'll fetch £60 on the black magic market).

Nuggets: Junior Bennett- Catfish Gumbo b/w Dennis The Fox- Piledriver

More nuggets came through and some more country funk,
a fine meeting of genre's that really should be a bad
idea, but Gram Parson's 'Ooh Las Vegas' dispelled all that.
A-side 'Catfish Jumbo' has disguised itself as as lost
blaxploitation instrumental, before bringing fiddles to
the ghetto, letting in some huffing flute and a heavy beat
fit for breaks.

On the flip is the 'Piledriver' by Dennis The Fox, taken
from his fantastically titled 'Mother Trucker' LP, a
rare little sucker. Thank goodness for labels like Scorpio
Sounds releasing these gems. Otherwise many would be denied
this slice of trucker funk.

Floyd Cramer - On The Rebound

Got this little classic nugget through the post today from discogs. I’m at work listening to it at spotify over and over again, but can’t wait to get home and throw this donut on my player. It’s an irresistible little number; it’s got a jive, a swing, a groove, its country but you could play out on the floor and get mods, rockabillies, soul boys, funk boys anybody with feet to dance, hands clap and hips to shake dancing.

For further listening check out Floyd Cramer’s Dallas Theme, it’s pure country funk.
